Dave Hakes' – Island Mode

The knee is fine – thanks (EVERYONE) for asking/bugging/advising me about it. All is back to normal – luckily I had two weeks off to heal.

Had a big job last week at the MACC, and another decent one this week (which ends Monday). Just preppin’ all the signage for the Mercedes-Benz Championship setup in December…

The iPhone is great! I do everything (including writing this post) with it…

I keep getting emails from those who knew me long ago as per what my look is now.  Well, I still shave my head, but the “Goat” is gone (my oldest didn’t like it when she was a baby, when I went to kiss her she would pull away, so away went the goat).  I go between two looks right now – basically I go from the clean guy here to the scruffy one in 10 days flat…

And, “Yes”, of course these photos were taken with the new iPhone! I told you, I do everything with it!

This was a fundraiser for Mana’o Radio – Cathy Collins – that happened tonight…

It was actually pretty incredible.  6 local acts.  Erick Gilliom was the last before break, Willie K was the end of the show…

The highlite of the night was when Willie came out singing opera.  He did it as a joke, but he sounded incredible!  So much talent in that guy!  Even on a bad night, he’s no ka oi!

Finally got to setup a show in the new venue – “On The Lawn”…

I should have taken a few pics of this thing but from the 12th to the 15th I had no time.  The setup was suppose to be a few 4 hr calls, but since we’d never setup out there it ended up taking 3 1/2 days (if you saw pics you would understand why – it was quite a setup)…

Nuff Said was the entertainment.  I hadn’t seen any of those guys for 5+ years, it was like a reunion.  They really kicked butt; surprised the hell out of me by playing songs other than their own, and doing it well!  I was the Stage Manager/A2 for the actual show itself…

I really had a good time doing this thing – worked my butt off and had a great time doing it!

Totally twisted my knee while jogging two days ago. My dog cut direction on me, I went with him for the exception of my right leg below the knee (which was planted). I really didn’t know anything was that bad until I got out of the shower a while later…

The next day I couldn’t move the leg at all (total bummer cause I had to ice my knee and use a stick as a crutch all day – my 1st borns birthday)…

The good news is that it felt better today, feels pretty good as I’m writing this, and a buddy of mine loaned me his crutches for the next few days…

My next gig is a few weeks away, so I have time to heal…

Bummer is that I’m gonna have to slow down my workout a bit cause most of my exercises are full-body, which means I can not do them…

I’m really not gonna run anymore, so if anyone on the mainland can get their hand on a “Stamina Body Trac Glider” Rowing Machine (should run around $150) please let me know. I’ve looked for them online and the only place I could find that would deliver to Maui wanted to charge me a little more than the cost of the machine to send it to me – really bummed. I just need it sent to me – doesn’t matter how slow it gets to me, as long as it gets to me…

I’m liking this WordPress for the iPhone!

Speaking of the iPhone, it hasn’t arrived yet. Waiting for this thing sucks!

On a side note, I noticed the other day a ton of PDF’s of news for the last few months on my computer, when time allows I’ll put it up (goes all the way back to Feb/Mar)…

I’m waiting for my iPhone to show up right now and am checking out all the apps on my iTouch before it arrives…

If this program works well (I’m writing this on my iTouch with “WordPress for iPhone”), I’ll be incredibly stoked..

Sudoku, vSnax, eBay, and the MySpace apps are all very cool as apps to run on the iTouch/iPhone…

After testing all this stuff over the last week the conclusion is, unless I’m running graphics for a show, there will never be a reason for me to ever truck my laptop with me again. I can literally do everything that I need to do (while on show site and not running graphics)…

Of coarse I need my laptop! But I can watch movies and news, read my magazines, books, and bible, use email, chat, MySpace, and this little program (WordPress for iPhone) all from this little touch screen device that I’m holding in my hand…

Oh Yeah, the one coming has a phone, camera, volume knob on the side, and external speaker (volume knob with speaker is a big thing for me cause I’m just about over headphones right now – really starting to hate them actually).  Getting by at breaktime isn’t what it use to be, you can actually have fun now without having to walk around the building looking for a wireless signal for your laptop…

Anyway, I hope the iPhone is all it’s cracked up to be, the iTouch has been…
